Our Story

How We Met

By Angela

I moved from Arizona to Los Angeles to go to fashion design school. One day while driving down PCH looking for a beach where I could do some homework and make some friends, I saw Ryan from the road. He was playing volleyball. I decided to sit near the court where he was playing and I happened to sit a few feet from his mom who he had brought to the beach with him that day. During a break from his game, Ryan and his mom were talking about going out to dinner and I could overhear their conversation. I thought it was so cute that he had taken his mom to the beach with him and I was so new to LA that I hadn't made many friends yet. I wanted so badly to go with this cute guy and his mom to dinner. That day, we both left the beach without even making eye contact.

The next day, I decided to go back and to my surprise he was there again. I sat near the same spot and this time, the life guard talked to me for a while and then one of his volleyball team mates talked to me for a couple of hours. He was a blonde fireman and a handsome guy, but just not my type. During our conversation, he asked what my thoughts were on marriage and I told him that I was never getting married because I had just ended a turbulent relationship. A few minutes later, Ryan walked up. He spotted the "Joyride Snowboards" cap I was wearing and asked

"Hey! Do you snowboard?"

I replied "Yes."

So, he said, "Will you marry me?"

So of course I said "Yes."

The fireman said "Wait! I thought you were never getting married."

So, I said "Oh yeh. I guess I can't."

Then Ryan said "Well, then would you be my girlfriend for a really long time?"

I replied "Yes!"

And the rest is history. We exchanged numbers and he called me the same day. He played no games and he was so honest and this won me over instantly. A few years later we were married and then had our son Sarkis 2 years after that. We now live in Scottsdale Arizona and had our second child Talullah in 2007.

How We Met

By Ryan

I went to the beach (Zuma tower 6) with my mom one day to play volleyball. I saw a sick honey and my mom even noticed her and told me I should talk to her. I figured she was out of my league and was way too hot for me so even though I noticed her several times that day, I didn’t speak to her because she was too hot and she ended up leaving.

The following day (one of the best days of my life) I went back to the beach to the same spot and she happened to be there again. I finished up a volley ball game and noticed she was actually talking to a hunky, recently-divorced, fireman friend of mine. Without a second thought I walked up to her and noticed she was wearing a “Joyride Co.” snowboard hat so I asked

“Do you snowboard?”

And she said “Yes.”

And so I said “Will you marry me?”

And she said “Yes.”

Right then, my friend that she had been talking to her said “Wait a minute…you just said you were never getting married.”

So she said “Oh yeh.”

So I said “Well, how about you be my girlfriend for a long time then?”

And she said “Ok.”

We chatted for a little while and right away it felt like we had known each other for a really long time and that we were already best friends. I fell in love with her right then and there. I was still too nervous to ask for her number so thankfully she said "Are you going to ask for my number or what?" I called her the same day and we ended up going out to the movies the next night. As we pulled in to the parking lot, I realized I still had not seen her eyes without sunglasses. So, I asked her to show me her eyes. She pulled down her sunglasses and looked over the lenses at me. I fell in love all over again. They melted me.
